OFT Food Safety & Injury Lawyers has filed its second lawsuit, and the first federal personal injury lawsuit, related to the recent multistate Listeria outbreak linked to Boar’s Head deli meats. This lawsuit is on behalf of a pregnant woman from Minnesota who nearly lost her unborn child due to consuming contaminated Boar’s Head deli meat purchased from a Florida Publix grocery store. The case is pending in the District of Minnesota, case number 24-cv-3151.

The Incident

The plaintiff, who was 36 weeks pregnant, contracted a severe listeriosis infection after consuming the contaminated deli meat. This resulted in hospitalization and a near-fatal experience for both mother and child. Fortunately, they both survived the ordeal. This case highlights the significant risks Listeria poses to pregnant women. According to the CDC, pregnant women are 10 times more likely to be infected by Listeria, which can lead to severe health issues for both the mother and the unborn child, including intellectual disabilities, paralysis, and even infant death.

Our Commitment

Listeria lawyers Brendan Flaherty and Ryan Osterholm have extensive experience representing women impacted by Listeria infections during pregnancy. They know the devastating effects of this bacteria and the crucial responsibility of food manufacturers to eliminate Listeria from their production facilities. Food manufacturers must be held responsible when they fail to live up to this responsibility.

The Outbreak

This recent outbreak has affected at least 43 individuals across 13 states, with three deaths reported. The outbreak has prompted a massive recall of Boar’s Head deli meat from its Virginia production facilities.

Our firm is committed to seeking justice for those affected by this outbreak and ensuring that food manufacturers uphold the highest standards of safety to prevent such incidents in the future. For more information or to request a copy of the Complaint, please contact our office.
