Outbreak Summary
On December 5, 2023, CooperSurgical issued an “Urgent Media Recall: Field Safety Notice” with respect to its “LifeGlobal global® Media” with Lot Numbers 231020-018741, 231020-018742, and 231020-018743. The recall notice stated that CooperSurgical had received an alarming “sudden increase” in the number of complaints about these particular lots of the media. According to CooperSurgical, these lots did not contain the required amount of magnesium necessary to nurture the development of healthy embryos in the medium.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most common type of assisted reproductive technology, and it has helped millions of people have babies since it was first pioneered in the 1970s.
