OFT Food Safety & Injury Lawyers have filed a lawsuit on behalf of a client who became severely ill with an E. coli infection after eating food from the Portillo’s in Glendale Heights on July 16, 2021. The infection caused the woman to endure excruciating pain and acute gastrointestinal distress, leading to her hospitalization. Although she has been released from the hospital, she continues to suffer ongoing complications from the serious infection.

The lawsuit (Case No. 2021-L-8213) is pending in the Law Division of Cook County Circuit Court. A copy of the complaint is available upon request.

Health department officials have identified at least 4 people who became sick with E. coli infections after eating food from the Glendale Heights location of Portillo’s restaurant on July 16 and July 17. At least one of the ill people developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which is a serious, potentially life threatening, kidney complication.

The OFT Food Safety law firm was built specifically to pursue justice in food poisoning cases. Moreover, OFT’s E. coli lawyers have ample experience litigating restaurant outbreaks in Illinois. In 2020, attorneys Bart Torvik and Brendan Flaherty successfully settled 14 separate lawsuits pending in Cook County on behalf of clients who were sickened with E. coli infections after eating at a restaurant.
