How Common are Cyclospora Outbreaks?

Cyclospora outbreaks have become much more common over the last several years. In 2025 alone, multiple outbreaks of cyclosporiasis were identified and found to be linked to different produce items.

As of September 16, 2025, 990 laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis in people who had no history of international travel during the 14-day period before illness onset have been reported to CDC by 37 states.

  • The median illness onset date is June 29, 2025 (range: May 1–August 31, 2025).
  • At least 90 people have been hospitalized; no deaths have been reported.
  • Multiple clusters of cases associated with different restaurants or events were investigated by state public health authorities, CDC, and FDA.

OFT Law Has Extensive Experience with Cyclospora Cases

OFT Law recently filed 10 lawsuits against Del Monte Fresh related to a very large Cyclospora outbreak linked to Del Monte Fresh Veggie Trays. OFT lawyers have filed lawsuits and brought claims in every major Cyclospora outbreak in the last 10 years. This includes major outbreaks including:

Cyclospora linked to cilantro in numerous states
